Bangladesh in South Africa, 2008

Bangladesh in South Africa, 2008

South Africa win the only Twenty20 by 12 runs

Bangladesh managed to make a mess and lose the only Twenty20 after a very strong position to win the match at New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg today. Bangladesh finally lost the match by 12 runs as the batsmen went to the match without any sensible game plan and needlessly wanted to throw bat at everything without any consolidation period.

Bangladesh started strongly after restricting South Africa to 118 for 7 in the rain curtailed 14 over match. After the early departure of Zunaed Siddique, Mohammad Ashraful and Tamim Iqbal quickly propelled Bangladesh to 56 in 5 overs, but both of them played stupid shots to give away their wickets and in the process hand the match to South Africa.

Bangladesh never looked to win match after the departure of Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful, and some poor running between the wickets further added miseries to a radar less Bangladesh side. Bangladesh added only 53 runs in the last 8 overs and ended up scoring 109/8 in 14 overs which was not enough to register their first win against the host nation on their home soil.

Bangladesh will face South Africa in the first match of the three-match ODI series in Potchefstroom on Friday.
